Window Fans
Most window fans consume less energy as compared with other existing cooling systems such as air conditioning. Moreover, they are less hazardous as they do not contain the chlorofluorocarbons that affect the ozone layer. They are much cheaper also. Therefore they attract the cost conscious consumers.
Window fans are excellent at bringing the fresh and cool air from outside into the house and expelling the stale and hot air out of it. They do not process the outside air with the chemical compounds while sucking them into the rooms as the air conditioners do.
Most of the window fans have 20 inch diameter and are easy to install. They can double up as floor fans also. So they are in great demand and their production is growing very fast.
Majority of the larger window fans require mounting kits and side panels. The function of the panels is to support the fan and prevent the air from circulating around and back into the fan. This results in losing the energy by as much as 8% to 10%.
The newer version of smaller window fans comes with the side panels in place. So as a consumer all you need to do is to open the window, fix the fan in and switch on the power button.
If you want to buy a larger model of the fan, you may have to close the window to allow the fan to be mounted in the window frame. Deluxe models are fixed with thermostat controls and have six speed choices.
The standard or popular models have three speeds, i.e., low, medium and fast. They are fitted with powerful and efficient motors which are very reliable and consume less power which means lower running costs.
They are so designed that they can be used in single or double glazing and most type of glass and material of up to 32 mm thickness. They are provided with extended fixing rods sets to accommodate greater thickness. These fans can be used in conjunction with the ventilation accessories in flexible and rigid ducting systems to fit in the individual requirements. Some fans are supplied with integrated instantaneous automatic louver shutters hidden behind the interior grille. This arrangement helps in saving a lot of energy
Window fans can also be mounted in fixing plates on the walls, in ducts and above the ceilings.
