Hearth: Natural Focal Point Of A Room
The three main parts to fireplace design consists of the hearth, the firebox and most importantly, the kind of opening that is incorporated between the firebox and the room in which the fireplace is situated. The hearth can be termed as the portion outside of the firebox. On the other hand, the firebox is the area in which the fire itself will be burned.
Let's start with hearths. Generally speaking, a hearth may be flush with the floor, raised above the floor, or as a matter of fact, be much lower than the floor. In that sort of scenario it is quite mandatory that the firebox should be at least two inches above the floor, as it is worthwhile remembering that the hearth is what assists in protecting the floor from the heat of the fire.
Different hearths will have hearth seats of various types. Taking this into account, the most traditional and famous kind of fireplace with hearth seats are the types that include just two blocks on either side of the firebox opening.
Not so long ago, a person had to purchase their hearth accessories in secret for fear of social ridicule and shame! You heard it absolutely right—can you imagine having to put on a disguise and purchase everything with cash just to get rid off the tag “hearth snob?” Thankfully, times have changed and the wonder and enjoyment of the fireplace has become famous. People can now shop for matching andirons, hearth tools, baskets, and other sorts of accessories with pride!
There is no denying the fact that the hearth is a natural focal point of any room. In other words, you can either use the fireplace to catch attention of visitors or can come up with a truly magnificent space by purchasing complimentary hearth accessories. In theory, a magnificent stained glass fireplace screen would look quite gorgeous. Unfortunately, the fact remains that this is just a decorative hearth accessory. Moreover, that is where the lead would melt and the glass would become damaged in case if you actually used the stained glass screen to safeguard flooring or to keep children away from the flying sparks.
Fully functional and beautiful fireplace screens are available in a wide array of designs and materials in the market. Bigger hearths will need a folding fireplace screen. On the other hand, small fireplaces are ideally shielded with a non-folding solid screen.
