Humidity is the amount of water content in the air. The vapor content in the air plays a very significant part in our health. It also determines the way we perceive the comfort level in the environment of our home or place of work. Too much excess or deficiency of humidity can make us feel very uncomfortable and may also affect our health.
Humidity Control Article
The amount of moisture content in the air is often termed as ‘relative humidity’ or R H and is measured in percentage of ‘saturation humidity’. If the percentage of relative humidity is too high, it may indicate that condensation will take place with detrimental consequences upon the health. Excessive moisture may cause medical conditions like arthritis, rheumatism and asthma.
We quite often purchase domestic appliances like dishwaters, tumble driers, boiling kettles and so on to save on labor. We little realize that these very devices may increase the level of humidity in our homes and cause us a great discomfort.
If the humid air reaches a cold surface, condensation is likely to occur which may cause mould, rust, rot etc.
Humidity can be measured in three ways: relative humidity, absolute humidity and specific humidity. Of these three the relative humidity indicates the possibility of precipitation, dew and fog. Higher relative humidity levels in summer may reduce the effectiveness of sweating to cool the body by preventing the evaporation of perspiration from the skin.
The best way to control the humidity level is to use humidifiers or dehumidifiers as the need may be. Since the excess of humidity is more widespread problem, it is advisable to use dehumidifiers to control it. A wide range of dehumidifiers is available both for domestic and commercial purposes. They help fight the dust mite and mold allergies caused by the mold spores which prosper in damp environment. Dust mite also multiplies daily by millions in humid places. Excessive humidity may also damage valuable household goods in such as furniture, computers, and electronic goods and so on in the basements.
On the other hand if the humidity level in your home or place of work is lower than the desired level, you must use humidifiers to improve the air quality by moisturizing the air. A warm and cool mist humidifier may help alleviate the health problems such as dry skin, swollen nasal passages, sinus headaches and so on which are caused by the dry air.
Warm mist humidifiers manufactured by reputed companies provide the comfort of a green house and humidify the room pretty fast. Humidifiers are equipped with ultraviolet light and the vaporization can provide 100% bacteria free mist.
