Foam insulation also called spray insulation, expanding foam and foam sealant or polyurethane spray foam, provides excellent thermal and anti-condensation for warm roof, attic, loft and metal roof insulation. It is eco friendly, does not deplete the ozone layer and does not emit toxic gases.
It is usually pumped and sprayed on tiles, slates or other substrates on the site point using high pressure heated hose pipes. This application seals the roof and prevents the ingress of rain, snow, dust and debris blown by the strong winds. The expanding foam can be sprayed in a short time and hardens in three to five minutes to form a rigid foam with excellent insulating properties.. It expands and seals the gaps and uneven surfaces. It also effectively controls the condensation on metal roofing, tiles, slates and metal cladding by creating a warm roof. Since it is a spray application, it can set in any shape and area and is quite suitable when the insulation boards are difficult to use.
Polyurethane expanding foam system is easy to use. Therefore certain companies provide DIY Spray Foam Insulation kits for do-it-yourselfers. This foam is an excellent sealant and provides seamless insulation. It is a good substitute for conventional insulation board or traditional sheets or rolls of insulation and bats which require an accurate cutting and edge sealing and can be done only by the trained professionals.
The do-it-yourself foam spray is great for roof, loft and attic insulation. When sprayed on to inside of the roof, it not only insulates but also fixes the tiles in place and prevents slippage.
Other advantages of foam spray insulation are:
It sticks to most surfaces including metal, wood, bricks, concrete, tiles and its application is very easy even for laymen.
It can be sprayed on the walls and roofs as paint and does not drip or sag.
It can also be injected into cavities or moulds and fills the gaps or voids perfectly.
Urethane Foam
Urethane foam plastic has gas-filled bubbles that make it light weight and a good insulation material. There are two types of Urethane foam—open cell and closed cell urethane foam. They have different R-values, permeability, strength, and costs and their application depends on the conditions of each installation. Both are commonly used in building applications. Urethanes are non-toxic. There are no formaldehydes in these plastics. Both these options are good for sound insulation as they seal the holes that allow the sound to penetrate through the walls and ceilings.
Foam Board Insulation is good for a variety of artwork uses ranging from presentation to model making.
